Villa Hiona is made up of two 250 year- old stone houses that are attached. They were the second houses to be built on the harbour . The house on the left was where my father’s family lived and the house on the right was called Hiona and was originally where the sponges that were kept and processed. Halki in all its glory before the Second World War, was a bustling, wealthy island, a fishing island, a sponge island and a trade island.
Villa Hiona is in the elite location of the harbour called “Viglimia”. Viglimia is a beautifully quiet part on the right side of the island, as one looks at Halki from the sea. It is extremely quiet and neighbourly. The stores and the center, the “piatsa” are only a short 5 minute walk.
