How to get to Halki

Halki (Greece) is an island in the Dodecanese, a group of islands in the Southeastern Aegean sea, on the west side of Rhodes.

BY AIR:

The island has no airport of its own, but  dozens of international airlines fly into  the Rhodes Diagoras International Airport (IATA code: RHO). The best way to reach Chalki is to fly to the International Airport of Rhodes, with one of the numerous charter or regular flights, and then catch a correspondence. Outside airport, taxis queue to take you to one of the two ports from where you can catch a ferry that goes to Chalki. Flying into Rhodes you will go to the aiport, which is in Paradisi. Halki can be reached from 2 areas of Rhodes: the central port and Kamiros Skala, which is a small port of the west side of Rhodes (45 minutes by taxi from the center of Rhodes and about 30 minutes from the airport). A taxi from the airport to the harbour at Kameiros Scala costs €45 EUR (up to four passengers).

BY BOAT:

There are 4 main ways of getting to Halki by boat:

1. BY FERRY FROM THE RHODES HARBOUR

Halki is only two hours by ferry from Rhodes’ main harbour. Halki is serviced by the large ferries that leave the port of Piraeus in Athens, and service the “off-the beaten track” islands of the Aegean. It is a beautiful journey, especially if one wants to get a cabin, and passes through a number of islands, including Santorini and Leros. The journey is about 22 hours port to port. These large ferries come through the island 2 times a week. You can either travel with them from Piraeus (22 hours) , or catch them from the port of Rhodes on the days that they pass through and will then have a 2 hour journey from the port of Rhodes to the port of Halki. 2. BY BOAT (CAIQUE) FROM KAMEIROS SCALA

Alternatively, you can take the small local boats, the καίκι (caique)  from Kameiros Scala, a small port on the west side of Rhodes: the boat leaves every day at 2:30 p.m., and the trip takes about one hour (€10/person). There are two local caiques which run the boat service between Halki and Kameiros Skala. They are the Nikos Express and the Nissos Halki. The journey time is 1 hour and 15 minutes and it will cost approximately €10.
